NOTICE OF BUDGET VOTE

The Board of Education of the Portville Central School District, Portville, New York, HEREBY GIVES NOTICE that a Public Hearing on the proposed 2026-27 budget will be held at Portville Central School, Portville, New York on the 5th day of May, 2026, at 7:30 p.m. in the John Dubots Room.
AND FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that petitions nominating candidates for the office of member of the Board of Education must be filed with the Clerk of the School District not later than April 20, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. The following vacancies are to be filled on the Board of Education: 5 year term of incumbent Christopher Kloc and 5 year term of incumbent Jennifer Faulkner. Each petition must be directed to the Clerk of the District, must be signed by at least 25 (twenty five) qualified voters of the District, must be filed with the District Clerk at least 30 (thirty) days prior to the budget vote on May 19, 2026, and must state the name and residence of the candidate. Blank forms are available in the superintendent’s office at Portville Central School.
AND FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that a copy of the statement of the amount of money which will be required for the 2026-27 fiscal year for school purposes, exclusive of public monies, may be obtained by any taxpayer in the district beginning May 6, 2026.
The following propositions will be presented for actions by the voters:
Proposition # 1 Shall the following proposition be adopted to wit: Resolved, that the budget for the Portville Central School District, Cattaraugus and Allegany Counties, New York, for the fiscal year commencing July 1, 2026 and ending June 30, 2027, as presented by the Board of Education, is hereby approved and adopted and the required funds therefore are hereby appropriated and the necessary real property taxes required shall be raised by a tax on the taxable property in said District to be levied and collected as required by law.
Proposition # 2 Shall the following proposition be adopted to wit: Resolved, that the Board of Education of the Portville Central School District, Cattaraugus and Allegany Counties, New York, is hereby authorized to purchase two (2) school buses at a sum not to exceed Three Hundred Seventy Thousand dollars ($370,000.00). And be it further resolved that the sum of not to exceed Three Hundred Seventy Thousand dollars ($370,000.00), being the aforesaid maximum estimated cost or so much thereof as may be necessary, shall be raised by the levy of a Tax upon the taxable property of said School District and all other eligible legal fund sources; and in anticipation of such tax, fund sources and aid, obligation of said School District may be issued.
AND FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that applications for absentee and early mail ballots will be obtainable beginning April 20, 2026, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, except holidays, from the District Clerk. Completed applications must be received by the District Clerk at least seven (7) days before the election if the ballot is to be mailed to the voter, or the day before the election, if the ballot is to be delivered personally to the voter. Absentee and early mail ballots must be received by the District Clerk not later than 5:00 p.m., prevailing time, on Tuesday, May 19, 2026.
A list of persons to whom absentee and early mail ballots are issued will be available for inspection to qualified voters of the District in the Office of the District Clerk between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. weekdays prior to the day set for the annual election. Any qualified voter present in the polling place may object to the voting of the ballot upon appropriate grounds for making his/her challenge and the reasons therefore known to the Inspector of Election before the close of the polls.
AND FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that qualified voters of the School District shall be entitled to vote at said annual vote and election held on May 19, 2026, between 1:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. to approve the 2026-27 budget.
A qualified voter is one who is (1.) a citizen of the United States of America, (2.) eighteen (18) years of age or older, and (3.) a resident with the School District for a period of thirty (30) days preceding the annual vote and election.
