Rep. Tom Reed, R-Corning, and John Plumb, his Democratic opponent in the 23rd Congressional District election, have committed to three debates before the Nov. 8 general election.
Plumb, a Democrat from Jamestown, announced that the candidates had agreed to two debates in Jamestown and one in Elmira. The Times Herald has offered to moderate a congressional debate in Olean, but there has been no response yet from either candidate’s campaign.
The congressional candidates will meet in a closed debate with the Jamestown Post Journal this month, in a televised debate hosted by WETM on Oct. 28 in Elmira and in a debate hosted by the Chautauqua County League of Women Voters on Nov. 1 in Jamestown.
Plumb, a former submarine commander and national security specialist with the Pentagon, with the National Security Council and in Congress, is a commander in the U.S. Navy Reserve.
