Home explodes
Firefighters were on the scene of a home explosion for seven hours Sunday at 832 Interstate Parkway in Foster Township, Pa. The explosion injured homeowners Robert and Beverly Butler.

BRADFORD TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Two elderly people were burned after their Interstate Parkway home exploded at 1:45 p.m. Sunday.

Bradford Township Volunteer Fire Department Chief Dan Burkhouse said his department and several other departments responded to a fire at the home of Robert and Beverly Butler at 832 Interstate Parkway.

Chief Burkhouse said Mr. and Mrs. Butler were home when the explosion occurred in the ground-floor family room of the split-level home. The couple ran outside to the driveway after the explosion occurred and a neighbor called the McKean County 911 Center.

“We were having an officers’ meeting and election at the Interstate Parkway station so we were nearby when the call came in,” Chief Burkhouse said. “When we arrived we found two burn victims and a fully involved house fire.”

The house is one of the last homes on the road before reaching the perimeters of Allegany State Park and the New York state line.

Chief Burkhouse said Mr. and Mrs. Butler were taken to Bradford Regional Medical Center by ambulance and were later transferred by ambulance to Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo, N.Y., which has a burn center. Helicopter transfer was not possible because of inclement weather.
