ALBANY (TNS) — Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced a new tourism campaign for Upstate New York during a press conference at the New York State Fairgrounds Monday.
“New York is not just reopening, we’re reimagining,” Cuomo told reporters in Syracuse on Monday. “We’re coming back in a big way. Get your vaccination (and) enjoy the state of New York.”
The second phase of New York state’s international tourism advertising campaign, “Come Be a Part of It,” will spend $40 million towards drawing visitors to the beauty of Upstate New York.
“I’m a salesman for the state of New York. I believe in the products that we have here in New York,” Cuomo said. We have it all. We have the most advanced urban areas on the globe, we have the most beautiful rural areas on the globe, all right here in the state of New York,” Cuomo said.
“Upstate New York has been a hidden treasure. You know, you say New York internationally or nationally, people think New York City. No, no, no, that’s part of our story. We have beautiful Upstate New York that has still not been fully explored and fully discovered. I also think we have an opportunity because we have the lowest positivity rate in the nation,” Cuomo continued. “You want to travel this summer? You travel safe and go to a place that you know is safe from Covid and that is the state of New York.”
Cuomo said the state’s “I Love New York” program would “lean in” to promoting places like Syracuse, Niagara Falls, Alexandria Bay, the Panama Rocks Scenic Park, and Watkins Glen State Park to jump start the large region’s economy. The governor shared a first look at two commercials for the campaign, featuring footage of the NYS Fair, Saratoga Race Course, Brewery Ommegang, and Lake Placid’s Cliffside Rollercoaster.
