ALLEGANY — While Canticle Farm staff stayed busy working with crops Wednesday, children in the Camp Creation program were busy rehearsing an Indian stick dance in a nearby field.
Organizers of the four-day program said the camp’s purpose is to teach children about protecting creation in addition to learning about other cultures. Now in its second year, the program is held at Canticle Farm on South Nine Mile Road. Canticle Farm is community-supported agriculture farm sponsored by the Franciscan Sisters of Allegany.
Sister Joyce Ramage, president of the corporation and director of Canticle Farm, said the program was created last year by the farm’s spiritual committee.
“The camp is educational and spiritual; we always open (each day) with some kind of prayer,” Sister Ramage explained. “We’ve been alternating between Hindu prayers for two days, and the other two days are Franciscan prayers.”
