Mary Jane Dash Harvey

CATTARAUGUS — Mary Jane Dash Harvey, 98, of Cattaraugus, passed from this life on Saturday (Oct. 17, 2026), the last of 13 children.

She was born Jan. 10, 1928, the daughter of the late LeRoy and Mary Nagle Dash.

Always busy working with her hands, she enjoyed gardening and fixing things around the house. The last years were spent watching birds eating at her bird feeders. She especially enjoyed cardinals, blue birds and orioles.

She loved family picnics/barbeques in the backyard gazebo and holiday dinners, always wanting people to stay a while longer and talk.

She had a mother’s perfect love and tenderness, but was strong in spirit and a force to be reckoned with when times called for it.

She is survived by a daughter, Norma (Tom Hook) Phillips; three sons, Neil (Sandra) Harvey, Donald R. (Barb) Harvey Jr. and John (Peggy) Harvey; a son-in-law, Ralph Gage; 13 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Harvey was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Donald R. Harvey Sr., who passed away in 2001; a daughter, Donna M. Gage; and a son, Jerry R. Harvey.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday (Oct. 22, 2026) at the Mentley Funeral Home Inc., 411 Rock City St. in Little Valley. Funeral services will be held at noon Thursday from the funeral home, with Rev. Mike Trenchard, officiating. Burial will be in North Otto Cemetery.
