Gary B. Enderle, father, grandfather, retired educator

CUBA — Gary B. Enderle, 90, of Cuba, passed away Thursday (Oct. 8, 2026) at the Pines Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Olean, after a lengthy illness.

Born March 2, 1936, in Rutland Township, Pa., he was a son of Frank and Donna Brown Enderle. On April 16, 1960, in the Horseheads Presbyterian Church, he married the former Joyce J. Jones, who passed away March 10, 2016.

Gary was a graduate of Elkand High School in 1954. He attended Mansfield State Teachers College 1958, where he received a degree in education and competed on the basketball team. For the next six months he served in the U.S. Army National Guard.

His career in education began at Horseheads Junior High School, where he taught for two years, followed by seven years at Wellsville Central School from 1961 to 1968 and two years at Seneca Falls Mynderse Academy. In 1970, he joined the Cuba Central School District (now Cuba-Rushford), where he dedicated the next 26 years to teaching mathematics until his retirement in 1996. During the summer months, he spent 24 years painting houses alongside Gary and Bob Wight, proudly completing 42 homes across the community over the years.

Gary loved helping young people learn in the classroom, as well as through sports. He was a dedicated coach, leading the JV freshman basketball team at Wellsville and the JV basketball team in Cuba. In his younger years, he also coached Little League and served as the Cuba recreation director for several years.

A person of deep faith, Gary sought ways to serve others throughout his life. A faithful member of the Cuba United Methodist Church, he taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, served as a trustee and was an active member of the finance committee.

He was deeply committed to his community, serving on the Cuba Library Board, the board of the Allegany First Federal Credit Union in Fillmore, and preparing taxes for senior citizens through the Allegany County Office for the Aging.  In 1995, he was presented an award by Allegany County Chapter NYSARC, Inc for his many years of Support of Persons with Developmental Disabilities.

He will be fondly remembered for his generosity, kindly supporting numerous local organizations in loving memory of his late wife and son. He was beloved by his grandchildren who treasured his humor and thoughtfulness. Above all, those who knew him will cherish the warmth, kindness and unwavering love he shared with so many throughout his life.

Surviving are two sons, Gordon C. (Nancy) Enderle of Madison, Wis. and Thomas G. Enderle of Brockport; a daughter, Janet E. Enderle of Little Valley; his grandchildren, Joshua, Jacqueline, Rhys, Mya, Ava and Ethan; a daughter-in-law, Debra Enderle of Cuba; two brothers, Thomas Enderle of Osceola, Pa. and Robert Enderle of Buffalo; and several nieces and nephews

Funeral services will be held beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, 2026, at the Cuba Methodist Church, 49 E. Main St., Cuba. The Rev. Rebecca Worth will officiate.
