Irma A. Hellwig Musall

ELLICOTTVILLE — IIrma A. Hellwig Musall of Ellicottville passed away Thursday (Sept. 30, 2026) at the age of 93, at The Pines Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center of Machias.

Born Aug. 26, 1933, in Gnojno, Kreis Lipno, West Prussia, Germany, she was the daughter of Ernst Emil and Lydia Witt Hellwig.

On June 21, 1951, she came to the United States on the Homeland. On April 7, 1956, Irma married Charles A Musall, who predeceased her May 8, 2010. They were married 51 years.

Irma was employed by Ellicottville Central School for 25 years. She worked in the cafeteria kitchen. In her early years she worked in Ellicottville for Dr. Leyens, the Weller Hotel and the Bowling Pin Factory.

She enjoyed gardening, berry/fruit picking and going for walks. She especially liked spending time with her family, friends, children and grandchildren.

She was an active member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Ellicottville for many years.

Surviving is her daughter, Susan(Jeff) George of Springville; son, Gerald (Cathy) Musall of Great Valley; 11 grandchildren, Ethan George, Noah (Kiersten) George, Simon George, Aaron (Jessica) Musall, Erica (Mike) Andera, Lee (Niradey) Musall, Kim Li (Justin) VanSickle, Cam Musall, Hailey Goode, Daneth Musall and Phalla (Sydney) Musall; brother, Emil Hellwig; sister, Olga (James) Cash; sister-in-law, Dottie Hellwig; 15 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; as well as many great-nieces and great-nephews.

Besides her husband, Irma was predeceased by her brothers, Adolf and Edward Hellwig; her daughter-in-law, Kathy Hall Musall; her brother-in-law, Jim Musall; and her sisters-in law, Shirley Hellwig, Marlene Hellwig, Opie Musall and Hilda Musall.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to all those who cared for Irma during her long illness.

Relatives and friends may call from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday (Oct. 7, 2026)  and from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday (Oct. 8, 2026), with funeral services to be held at 11 a.m. All will be at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ellicottville. Pastor Mark Swanson will officiate. Burial will be at Sunset Hill Cemetery in Ellicottville.

Memorials may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ellicottville or to the Ellicottville/Great Valley Ambulance Service.

Arrangements are under the direction of Mentley Funeral Home Inc. 411 Rock City St. in Little Valley.
