Susan Frances Bothwell

MONTROSE, Colo. — Susan Frances Bothwell died Friday, Sept. 11, 2026, in Montrose, following a brief illness.

Susan was born March 1, 1948, in Olean, N.Y., to Rose Zuzek Bothwell and Edward William Bothwell.

She graduated from Erie Community College in Buffalo, N.Y. with a degree in dental hygiene.

She eventually made her home in Montrose, a community she loved. With her outgoing personality and wonderful sense of humor, she made friends easily and formed many lasting friendships.

A devout Christian, Susan’s faith was an important part of her life. She was active in several community organizations and bible study groups and generously gave her time to others, including through her volunteer work at HopeWest Hospice in Montrose.

Susan loved the outdoors and was an avid hiker. She also loved her garden and devoted many happy hours to tending and maintaining it. Her love of animals was another important part of her life, and she supported animal rescue organizations.

She is survived by her sister, Mary Bothwell; her brother, William Bothwell and his wife Marnie; her nephews, Trevor Bothwell and Erik Bothwell; her niece, Christina Wren; and the many friends whose lives she touched in the Montrose community.

Susan was preceded in death by her parents, Rose and Edward Bothwell.

She will be interred at St. Bonaventure Cemetery at Allegany, N.Y., at a future date.

In Susan’s memory, those wishing to make a memorial contribution are invited to consider HopeWest Hospice or an animal rescue organization of their choice.

Her family hopes that Susan will be remembered for her strong faith, her love of the outdoors and animals, her wonderful sense of humor, and the friendships and kindness she so freely shared with others.
