ARCADE — Wayne E. Jones, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, passed away peacefully Thursday (Sept. 17, 2026) at 2:30 a.m., at the age of 72.

Wayne was born Aug. 24, 1954.

He graduated from Pioneer High School in 1972 and continued his education at the University of Toronto, where he earned a degree in hydraulics. He later attended the University of British Columbia, earning a degree in electrical components.

His education and natural mechanical ability led him to a career that he was immensely proud of. Wayne worked with K.R. Wilson in Arcade, where he programmed and built hydraulic equipment used in the manufacturing of boiler components. From there, he entered the Boilermakers apprenticeship program and, in 1974, became a full-fledged boilermaker. He went on to spend many years working in power plants throughout the United States and Canada, building a career defined by hard work, skill and dedication. He became a project manager for Frank Lill and Son around 1993 and carried on that career for 20 plus years until his retirement.

In 1974, Wayne married the love of his life, Mary Green. Together, they built a life and a family filled with memories, hard work and love.

In 1978, Wayne and Mary began their life on their farm in Freedom. The farm became one of the things Wayne was most proud of. What began with just two animals grew into a farm with more than 250 head of livestock. Wayne found tremendous joy and purpose in caring for his animals and working his land. His farm was not simply a place where he lived — it was a reflection of who he was: hardworking, independent and happiest when he had something to build, fix or care for.

Wayne’s greatest pride, however, was his family.

He is survived by his two sons, Matthew J. (Nicole) Jones of Rushford and Timothy W. (Jennifer) Jones of Rushford; as well as his grandchildren, Zach, Jake (Haley), Dylan (Brandi), Grant, Jersey (Derek), Harlie (Konnor) and Haydn (Joe), who brought him immeasurable joy and gave him countless reasons to smile. He is also survived by members of his extended family, including his mother, Edna; siblings, Mike (Carole) of Arcade, Larry Jones of New Jersey and Paula (Ron) Kilbourn of Rushford; and many other loved ones who will carry his memory with them.

Wayne was predeceased by his father, Paul Jones; brother, Brian Jones; nephew, Todd Jones; sister-in-law, Susan Fortungbare; sister-in-law, Janet; brother-in-law, Jeff Norton; and brother-in-law, Jerry Simmons.

Wayne will be remembered for his hardworking hands, his knowledge and mechanical talent, his love of farming, and most of all, his devotion to his family. He leaves behind a lifetime of work, stories, lessons and memories that will continue through the generations.

To his family, he was simply Papa — a name that meant love, guidance, hard work, and home.

His family will carry him in their hearts and miss him more than words can express.

Friends and family may call from noon to 2 and from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday (Sept. 20, 2026) at the W.S. Davis Funeral Home, 358 Main St., Arcade. Immediately following calling hours, everyone is invited to Wayne and Mary’s home for a reception and a continuation of Wayne’s Celebration of Life.
