HONEOYE — Michael Dennis Ralph Grant, a resident of Honeoye, passed to the Glory of Christ on Thursday (Sept. 10, 2026) while he was doing what he loved, camping in his home state of New York.
He was born Nov. 15, 1958, in Kingston, a son of the late Harold and Evangeline Osgood Grant. On May 18, 1996, he married Donna Hartman, who survives.
During his camping adventures he had been to the highest peak in the Empire State where he heard bagpipes on the breeze, traversed the trails less taken and bushwhacked positive where most would be lost. He walked the forest, dipped the oar, and pulled the night watch at the fire where all around him were wrapped in sleep only to wake early to prepare chocolate chip pancakes.
Then at home it was family prayer at every meal without fail. He taught us how to pray, how to be useful, how to repair a car, how to be patient, how to love without strings and daily under his roof a kiss goodnight even if we didn’t deserve it.
Such is the highest attribute of an honorable man.
Fathers; tell your little ones you love them — that you’re proud of them like he did; these things they will never forget.
“Train your children the way they should go, and when they are old, they will not depart from it.” — Proverbs 22:6
Surviving in addition to his wife are his children, Aaron Michael (Sarah) Grant of Groton, S.D., Daniel (Martha) Grant of Henrietta, Amanda Baker of Champaign, Ill., C. Thomas (Rebecca) Calhoun of Walworth and Chelsea (Shaun) Young of Casselberry, Fla.; 14 grandchildren, Cyralina, Madeline, Evangeline, Aaron, Emma, Aiden, Ethan, Liam, Zoe, Luke, Tyler, Siera, Nadine and Sterling; his siblings, David (Molly Wenke) Grant of Florida, Vicki Grant-White (Earl) of Houghton, Valerie (Michael) Smith of Caneadea and Rebecca (Larry) Griffin of Palmetto, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends may gather from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday (Sept. 18, 2026) at the Kopler-Williams Funeral Home located at 21 N. Genesee St., Fillmore. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday (Sept. 19, 2026) in the Houghton Wesleyan Church. Pastor Jon Cole will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Houghton.
For memorials, if desired, the family has requested that a tree would be planted in Michael’s memory.
