Marian G. Shaner, loving mother and grandmother

BOLIVAR — Marian G. Shaner, 88, of Bolivar, passed away Monday (Aug. 31, 2026) at Jones Memorial Hospital, after a brief illness.

Marian was born April 25, 1938, in Cortland. On Sept. 20, 1958, in the Union Presbyterian Church in Newburgh, she married her husband of 67 years, Donald L. Shaner, who predeceased her Feb. 6, 2026.

She was a beautician for several years and later worked for Eastman Kodak in Rochester. She later lovingly embraced being a homemaker and enjoyed the role of being the neighborhood mom.

Marian lit up every room and was the first to offer a smile and to welcome new friends. She was a humble woman who enjoyed gathering with family and friends whether it be playing cards, coloring, crafting or painting. She loved working in the yard and being outdoors. She was the kind of person you looked up to and wanted to be like. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by a daughter, Kelly Shaner of Wellsville; eight grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy Musto of Gates; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by two sons, Keith Shaner and Kirt Shaner; a daughter, Kathy Kunisch; and a sister, Mary.

At her request there will be no services.
