Franklinville Fire Department celebrates 150 years
Photos by Jay Bradish The Franklinville Volunteer Fire Department's antique Mack pumper led a firemen's parade Saturday as the community celebrated the 150th anniversary of its fire department. Activities celebrating the anniversary were held Friday and Saturday, including a water ball competition on Friday evening, live bands as part of the fifth annual Bash by the Creek, a car show, bounce houses for children, lots of food and beverages and fireworks Saturday night. The fire department was established in 1876 as the Eagle Engine Company and evolved from hand- and horse-drawn equipment to the most modern equipment of today. Area Fire Departments participating in the parade were Franklinville, Farmersville, Machias, Delevan, Yorkshire, Lyndon, Ischua and Allegany.
