Robert G. ‘Bob’ Slank, loving dad, grandpa and brother

OLEAN — Robert Slank, of formerly of Liverpool, passed away Sunday (Aug. 16, 2026) at the Pines Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center of Machias.

Robert was born Sept. 24, 1939, in Syracuse, and was the son of Henry Edward and Bessie Ann Frye Slank. On April 18, 1959, in East Syracuse, he married Elizabeth Lou McDaniel, who predeceased him March 29, 2014.

Robert was a 1957 graduate of East Syracuse High School. After graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving from Oct. 17, 1957, to Sept. 18, 1959.

Robert worked at Bristol Myer Squid for 22 years where he worked in receiving. While he and his wife started Slanks Ceramic Supply Wholesale business in Syracuse, he was the president, and owner/operator with his wife. He was self employed and would buy homes to rebuild and recondition them to rent for over 15 years.

Robert was fondly known by his family and especially his grandchildren as “Bobpi.”

Robert enjoyed traveling, vacationing with his family, playing cards and going to his camp in Fourth Lake. He was a member of the Liverpool Presbyterian Church.

Robert is survived by two children, Dawn M. (Richard) Turner of Olean and Edward A. (Elanor) Slank of Las Vegas, Nev.; two granddaughters, Cara E. Kretschmer of Allegany and Samantha N. Slank of Las Vegas; a great-granddaughter, Luna R. Turner; a daughter-in-law, Tammy Sue Slank of Las Vegas; and a brother, Henry (Barbara) Slank of East Syracuse.

Along with his loving wife Elizabeth, Robert was predeceased by his parents; an infant daughter, Cindy Ann Slank on April 1, 1961; a brother, Ronald Slank; and nine other brothers — Robert was the youngest of 12 boys; and his cat, Juliette.

As per his wishes there will be no services.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cattaraugus County SPCA, 2944 Route 16, Olean, NY 14760.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc., 646 E. State St., Olean.
