Gary Gordon Bentley

DALTON — Gary Gordon Bentley, a former resident of Dalton, passed away at Wyoming County Community Hospital SNF, Warsaw, on Friday (July 31, 2026).

Born March 8, 1942, in the Town of Burns, a son of the late Gordon and Lucille Ruckle Bentley. He married Alice Ann “Judy” Bentley who predeceased him.

Gary was a self-employment dairy farmer, a career that epitomized his work ethic and deep connection to the land.

In his leisure, Gary was an avid fan of both the Buffalo Bills and the Buffalo Sabres, and he celebrated their triumphs with great enthusiasm.

The Christmas season held a special place in his heart; he loved it so much that he adorned his home with Christmas lights year-round, a bright reminder of his joyful spirit. Gardening brought him peace, and he found immense happiness in nurturing both his plants and the younger generations of his family.

Those who knew Gary recognized his genuine love for his grandchildren, around whom he built much of his life. His devotion to family was unfailing, and the warmth of his relationships stands as a testament to his character.

Gary’s impact on all who knew him endures well beyond his years. His legacy of family bonds, diligent work and simple joys will long be remembered by his family, friends, and all whose lives he touched.

Surviving are his surviving children, Todd (Tracey) Bentley of Castile, Darcy (Jamie) Metcalfe of Ischua and Terril (Cheryl) Bentley of Bliss. Gary’s legacy continues through his 17 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Gary is remembered as a brother, brother-in-law and a father-in-law by a large and loving extended family. His surviving siblings include Diana Orlando, Joyce Withrow, Brian (Cheryl) Bentley, Eric (Roxanne) Bentley, Michael (Cora) Bentley, Paula (Paul) Pavone, Blaine (Roxanne) Bentley and Jon (Denice) Bentley; a daughter-in-law, Alicia Allen of Dalton; and numerous nieces and nephews also mourn his passing.

In addition to his wife and parents he was predeceased by his son, Garyl Bentley; his brother-in-law, Sam Orlando; his grandsons, Jeremiah Bentley and Eric Flint; and his great-grandsons, Seth Carpenter and Justin Carpenter.

Family and friends may gather from 2 to 4 and again from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday (Aug. 6, 2026) at Kopler-Williams Funeral Home, 21 N. Genesee St., Fillmore. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday (Aug. 7, 2026) at the same location. Joel Stroud, pastor of the Hume Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Short Tract Cemetery, Short Tract.
