Cecelia J. Thompson

WISCOY — Cecelia J. Briggs Thompson, a former resident of Wiscoy, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Thursday (July 30, 2026) at the remarkable age of 95.

Cecelia was born March 10, 1931, in Addison, and throughout her journey left a gentle and indelible mark on all who were privileged to know her.

The tapestry of Cecelia’s life was woven with threads of love, faith, diligence and adventure. She devoted many years of service as a production worker for American Tile in Olean.

Cecelia’s life was infused with passions that brought her immense joy and formed the heart of many cherished memories. Her lens captured fleeting moments; as an avid photographer, Cecelia preserved the beauty she so easily saw in the world. Her adventurous soul found delight in traveling, her laughter rang out in games of cards, and the water offered her peace and pleasure as she swam. Few who knew her can forget the sight of Cecelia astride a Harley Davidson, the undisguised thrill of the ride shining in her eyes — a testament to her zest for living beyond convention.

Cecelia belonged to the Red Hatter group, relishing camaraderie and friendship, donning her hat with both pride and mischief. Home, for Cecelia, meant many places, including cherished times in with Viva and John in Wiscoy, Smethport, Pa., and sun-drenched days in Naples, Fla. No matter where she resided, her warmth and grace made every gathering feel like a homecoming.

At the center of Cecelia’s being was a profound and abiding love for her Savior, Jesus Christ — a devotion that shaped her daily actions and transformed adversity into opportunity for grace. This faith was her proudest accomplishment, a guiding light she willingly shared with family, friends and all who crossed her path.

Surviving are her daughters, Rose Fitzsimmons of Pennsylvania and Viva (John) Ellis of Wiscoy; her brother, Albert Baker; and her sister, Bea Johannsen, Her legacy continues through four grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews — each a living testament to the enduring love and kindness she embodied.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Ernest, Maynard, Charles and Billy Baker; her sisters, Waneta Alabaugh and Ernestine Williams; her father, Ernest Briggs; her mother, Ethel Trim Briggs; her daughter, Ethel; son, Robert; and two grandchildren. Their memories, like hers, are woven into the hearts of all who remember.

There will be no services.
