James A. White, loving husband, father and grandfather
FRANKLINVILLE — James A. White, of Washburn Avenue, passed away peacefully Wednesday (July 22, 2026) at his home, following a short illness.
James was born May 23, 1939, in Hornell, and was the son of William and Harriet Jennings. On Sept. 20, 1958, at the Baptist Church in Franklinville, he married his loving wife Erma E. Hallock, who predeceased him Aug. 22, 2025.
James was a 1957 graduate of Belfast Central School.
On Sept. 12, 1957, he started working for Ontario Knife Co. for 47 years, retiring Oct. 1, 2004.
James held several positions with the First Presbyterian Church in Franklinville and had a strong faith.
James was a member of the Gideons International. He was an avid New York Yankees fan.
James is survived by a daughter, Debbie Ramsey; a son, Kevin (Mary) J. White; two grandsons, Kevin B. White and Nicky (Tish) White; one granddaughter, Danielle Ramsey; three great-grandchildren, Sapphire, Tyler and Krystal; a sister, Donna Sortone; and extended family.
Along with his loving wife, Erma, James was predeceased by his parents.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday (July 27, 2026) at the Babbitt & Easton Funeral Home, 7 N. Main St., Franklinville. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday (July 28, 2026). Pastor Ralph Mueller of United Church of Ellicottville will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Prospect Cemetery, Franklinville. Following the burial, a gathering will be held at the United Church of Ellicottville, 51 Elizabeth St., Ellicottville.
