Lloyd J. ‘Butch’ Bennett, he did it his way
JACKSONVILLE — Lloyd J. Bennett passed away Friday (July 10, 2026), after a long battle with cardiac disease.
Lloyd was born in Olean on Feb. 26, 1943, the son of Lloyd Chester and Blanche Neporadny Bennett. He married Ann Harris at St Joseph’s Church, Olean, on Sept. 23, 1961. Lloyd called it the smartest decision he ever made.
A proud graduate of Olean High School, Class of 1961, Lloyd played football and ran track for OHS.  He worked for Niagara Mohawk for 22 years.
He was a proud member of the American Contract Bridge League. Lloyd and Ann achieved Life Master status. He loved deer hunting with his kids, playing poker with friends at Brookdale, and playing softball in his youth.  He looked forward to “Happy Hour” every day.
His greatest joy and the reason he persevered was Ann.  They loved traveling and, most importantly, their family.
Lloyd is survived by his loving spouse Ann, of 64 years; children, Lloyd C. (Suzanne) Bennett of Raleigh, N.C. and Amy Bennett (Paul) Loughran; daughter-in-law, Laurie Bennett; grandchildren, Jay (Alecia) Bennett of Raleigh, Shaun Bennett of New Orleans, La., Andrew Loughran of Knoxville, Tenn., Molly Loughran of Raleigh and Christian Bennett of Olean; great-grandchildren, Natalie Bennett and Ellie Bennett; siblings, Joyce (Michael) Keller of Rochester and Denise (James) George of Olean; and several nieces, nephews and cousins with whom he was very close.
Lloyd was predeceased by his son, James “Jimmer” Bennett, on July 19, 2022.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, July 24, 2026, at Guenther Funeral Home, Inc., 1303 E. State St., Olean, with burial to follow at St. Bonaventure Cemetery.
