James D. Brooks

LITTLE VALLEY — James D. Brooks, 52, of Little Valley, passed away Friday (July 10, 2026) at his home.

He was born Oct. 22, 1973, in Jamestown, the son of the late Thomas and Cherry Eddy Brooks.

James will be remembered for his easy going personality and great sense of humor. He was always making people laugh. His love of music, especially Tom Petty will live on through his children.

James was a home chef; many will remember him from his food at barbecues and family picnics — everyone would fight over leftovers, that is, if there was any left. His love language was food, he cooked delicious meals every night for his family. His children carry on his legacy through their shared passion for the culinary arts.

He was a partner in the family grocery store until he moved on to his most important job as a stay-at-home dad. James was a devoted father and a loving husband who sacrificed everything for his family.

He is survived by a son, David (Emily Hutchison) Brooks of Cattaraugus; and two daughters, Emmalee Brooks of Salamanca and Katlyn Brooks, also of Salamanca. Also surviving are four brothers, David (Lorraine) Galbreath of Florida, Richard (Late Debi) Brooks of Little Valley, Thomas Brooks II of Little Valley and Michael (late Lani) Brooks of Napoli; a sister, Aihme Ellis of Little Valley; a brother-in-law, Ty Uhlig of Kentucky; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a sister, Vonnie Uhlig.

Private family services will be held .

Memorials may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, E.A.R.S. or MHAWNY.

Arrangements are under the direction of Mentley Funeral Home Inc. 411 Rock City St. in Little Valley.
