Alfred P. LaFredo Jr., retired Olean fireman

OLEAN — Alfred P. LaFredo Jr., of The Pines Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center of Olean, passed away Sunday (July 5, 2026) at Olean General Hospital.

Alfred was born June 28, 1946, in Olean, and was the son of Alfred P. and Rose Tokarcik LaFredo Sr.

Alfred graduated from Olean High School in 1965.

He retired from the City of Olean Fire Department then went on to complete his part time training to become a police officer. He served as a part-time Allegany police officer and then with the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Department. Alfred had a combined 50 years of service with the Olean Fire Department, Town of Olean Fire Department and Ashford Volunteer Fire Department. He was very proud of his service.

In his retirement he enjoyed traveling to see his family, the casino and watching trains.

Alfred is survived by his daughter, Kimberly A. (Billy McClain) Ackerman of Olean; two grandchildren, Clay Ackerman and Brynn Ackermann, both of Olean; siblings, Ron (Janet) LaFredo of Hudson, Fla., Cecil LaFredo of Cortland and Jerry (Gayla) LaFredo of Henderson, Nev.; and several nieces and nephews.

Alfred was predeceased by his parents.

Services will be held privately at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc., 646 E. State St., Olean.
