William L. Howden
ALLEGANY — William L. Howden, 85, of Allegany, passed away Monday (June 8, 2026) at Cuba Memorial Hospital, where he had recently been admitted.
Born April 28, 1941, in Wellsville, he was the son of William H. and Eleanor Shaw Howden. On Dec. 26, 1959, in Wellsville, he married Jacquelyn J. Wooley, who survives.
William was a graduate of Wellsville Central School and later received a teaching degree from Buffalo State College in 1965.
He had been employed for nine years as an elementary education teacher for Ellicottville Central School. He then worked for Dresser Rand and also for Cooper Power Systems before retiring.
Bill was a motorcycle riding enthusiast and loved cruising the roads all over Allegany County. He was also a philatelist who enjoyed his membership in the Olean Stamp Club. He most enjoyed being with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife, Jacquelyn; four sons, Vincent (Cindy) Howden of Clymer, and Monty (Angie) Howden, Michael Howden and Glenn Howden, all of Allegany; six grandchildren, Ann, Kaleena, Tiana, Christopher, Zoe, Margie and Mark; 12 great-grandchildren, Hailey, Marissa, Chloe, Ayden, Ellie, Tatymn, Bubba, Morgyn, Samantha, Gavin, Logan, Jilliam, Brenna, Holden and Aidren; two great-great grandchildren, Cooper and Mariella; one brother, David Howden of Washington State; and nieces and nephews, Shane, Laurie, Cindy, Luann, Bob and Steve.
He was predeceased by a sister, Nancy Zelliff.
At Bill’s request, there will be no public visitation or service.
Memorials, if desired, may be made to St. Bonaventure Parish, or to The Bridge, both addresses being 95 E. Main St., Allegany, NY 14706.
