Stephen T. Crowley Jr.

OLEAN — Stephen T. Crowley Jr., lifelong resident of Olean, passed away peacefully at age 91 on Saturday (May 30, 2026) with family members at his side.
Born Aug. 8, 1934, in Olean, of the late Stephen T. Crowley Sr and Myrna Scott Crowley, he married the former Marjorie F. Craft, to whom he was married for nearly 50 years prior to her passing in 2005.
Steve was employed at Dresser Clark for 40 years, where he worked as a draftsman/designer.
He was also an accomplished square dance caller, which he loved.  He called dances for decades with the Reel Squares Club of Olean and also the Western NY square dance camping group known as the Penny Promenaders.  Even in his later years, he continued to call square dances for seniors at the John Ash Community Center. He was a regular at the center, where you could find him on any given day enjoying coffee and conversation with good friends.
Steve was a lifelong member of St. Mary of the Angels Basilica and never missed a mass until the Covid pandemic struck, and after which he still attended church regularly. Even when out of town on weekend camping trips with his young family, the first thing he would do is locate the nearest Catholic church!
Motivated by the loss of his wife Marge, Steve served with the Stephen Ministry at the church for many years, offering grief counseling to others, helping them cope with their losses. He also volunteered regularly at the parish’s holiday meals.
Steve is survived by two sons, Stephen T. (Donna) Crowley III of Weatherford, Texas and Christopher (Sharon) Crowley of Hinsdale; four grandsons, Stephen T. Crowley IV of Buffalo, Matthew J. Crowley of Allegany, Scott C. Crowley of Houston, Texas and Patrick M. (Lorna) Crowley of Fort Worth, Texas; one brother, Daniel E. Crowley; and one sister, Mary Dutkiewicz, both of Olean; as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition, he is survived by longtime companion, Mary Kohl; and very close friend, Chris Crawford.
Besides his parents and loving wife, he was predeceased by brother, William E. Crowley; and an infant sister, Stephana.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday (June 4, 2026) at Guenther Funeral Home Inc., 1303 E. State St., Olean. Funeral services and mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday (June 5, 2026) at St. Mary of the Angels Basilica, followed by burial at St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Allegany.
Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to either St. Mary of the Angels Basilica;

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Guenther Funeral Home, 1303 E. State St., Olean.
