NORTH JAVA — Margaret Hartman, 87, formerly of Salamanca, passed away Friday (May 15, 2026) at the Charlotte House Comfort Care Home.

Born May 28, 1938, in Blyth, Northumberland, England, she was the daughter of the late Victor and Miriam Fawcett. She was married to Theodore “Ted” Hartman on Jan. 25, 1974, who predeceased her in 2018.

Margaret held many positions since arriving in the United States. She worked at Dr. Fedell’s dental office. She also bartended at the Dudley Restaurant for several years with her dear friend, Elizabeth “Betty” Milanowski Yuhas.

Margaret assisted her husband in management of the L B Hartman car dealership. And then again when Ted and Paul Bush formed Bush-Hartman Plastics. Afterwards, she and Ted worked together to create R F Kilns, all of which were located in Salamanca.

Margaret was employed for over 20 years as the office manager for JD Northrup Construction, Ellicottville, working alongside her best friend, Janice Carnes Benson. She retired from that position in 2006. For a few years, she also was a weekend nanny for the two children of Frank and Jocelyn Linsalata, Mansfield.

After her first retirement, Margaret went to work for Southern Tier Forest Products and Dr Green Lawn in Salamanca, retiring from there in 2017.

Margaret enjoyed gardening, traveling with her late husband in their motorhome, spending time with her family and her beloved dogs, Lady and Scarlett, both of whom predeceased her as well.

Surviving are a sister, Jillian, England; a sister-in-law, Rose McClarnon of England; two children, Tina Dillon of Great Valley and Ian (Flavia) Dillon is Mukilteo, Wash.; a former son-in-law, Ronald Schimp of Springville; a former daughter-in-law, Jacqueline Ramsay of Suquamish, Wash.; three granddaughters, Amber Arcadipane of Jamestown, Jessica Dillon of Seattle, Wash. and Autumn Gilbert of Springville; three great-grandsons, Theo Kulig, Sylas Kulig and Nico Calkins, all of Jamestown; several nieces and nephews of England; and two grand-dogs, Maggie and Cinni.

Besides her husband, Margaret was predeceased by her brother, Peter McClarnon.

There will be no visitation. A Celebration of Life will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 27, 2026, at St Paul’s Lutheran Church, 6360 Route 242, Ellicottville. The family requests that those attending wear colorful outfits to match Margaret’s personality.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to The Charlotte House Comfort Care Home at 4316 Route 98, North Java, NY 14113; or Empire Animal Rescue (EARS) at P.O. Box 445, Salamanca, NY 14779.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River St., Salamanca.
