James R. Hicks
James R. Hicks, loving husband and father
FRANKLINVILLE — James R. Hicks, of Cherry Street, passed away Monday (May 4, 2026) at Olean General Hospital.
James was born Jan. 19, 1942, in Franklinville, and was the son of Harold K. and Thelma Riggs Hicks. In September of 1966, he married his loving wife of 60 years, Kathleen D. Larson who survives.
James was a 1960 graduate of Franklinville High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army right out of high school. James then reenlisted in the early 1970s for an additional stint until June 23, 1978.
He worked as a police officer in Arcade and was a Wyoming County Sheriff. James then went to work at Motorola for almost 20 years, retiring in the late 1990s. He also cooked at his wife’s restaurant “Gates Creek Café” for many years.
James enjoyed fishing and hunting when he was younger. He was a life remember of the Conservation Club, where he served as past president and also a member of the I.O.O.B.
Along with his loving wife, Kathleen, James is survived by two children, Michael L. Hicks of Franklinville and Kimberly M. (Tony) Peterson of Freedom; a grandson, Andrew J. Hicks; and four nieces and nephews.
James was predeceased by his parents; and a brother, William Hicks.
Services will be held at a date and time to be announced.
Arrangements are under the direction of Babbitt & Easton Funeral Home, 7 North Main St., Franklinville. Burial will be in Mount Prospect Cemetery.
