SCIO — Ricky J. Calhoun, 50, of Scio, recently of Olean, passed away Thursday (May 7, 2026) at Highland Hospital in Rochester.
Born June 23, 1975, in Olean, he was one of two children born to Earnest and Rose Mary Harmond Calhoun.
Ricky was a graduate of Olean High School and later attended Olean Business Institute. He also received some training at Continental School of Beauty.
He had several hobbies and things he liked to do, including family gatherings. He especially liked sharing a birthday celebration with his sister, Kimberly, whose birthday is close to his.
He had a keen interest in drawing detailed imaginary city maps as a way of passing the time. He was also an avid reader and liked researching geography and studying history. Ricky was very knowledgeable about cars and could quote statistics about most makes and models.
Another hobby was collecting an array of music from artists from different genres, with Madonna being his favorite. In recent years he liked attending the St. Mary’s Church festival in Olean.
Ricky leaves behind his only sister, Kimberly Ann Calhoun of Portville; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. He treasured the close support and friendship of James and Patty Button of Scio and Donna Scott of Wellsville, whom he considered to be family.
He was predeceased by his mother, Rose Mary on March 1, 2015; his father, Earnest on Jan. 17, 2022; and his grandparents, John and Edna Gayton Clark.
There will be a celebration of life service for Ricky at 2 p.m. Friday (May 22, 2026) at the River’s Edge United Methodist Church, 10 N. Main St., Portville. Captain Megan Moretz of The Salvation Army will officiate.
