ALLEGANY — Richard Allen Fortuna, of Allegany, passed away Thursday, May 7, 2026, at the age of 68.
He was born April 11, 1958, one of five children to Charles and Elizabeth Stavish Fortuna.
Throughout life he was always known for his generous heart, endless energy and willingness to help anyone who needed it. He dedicated many years of his life to being a general contractor, a career that showed his hard work and meticulous nature.
Richard was a 1976 graduate of Allegany Central school.
Richard truly enjoyed life to the fullest and always had a smile on his face. He never missed a Buffalo Bills game, enjoyed golfing and loved to watch drag racing.
Richard cherished outdoor gatherings and frequently organized picnics and bonfires with loved ones. Family and friends meant everything to Richard. He was a loving father and cherished uncle, affectionately known as “Uncle Ricky” to many.
He is survived by his son, Cole Fortuna; his partner, Sharon Corkery; brothers, Mike (Georgia) Fortuna of Allegany and Dennis (Kelly) Fortuna of Allegany; and his sisters, Denise (Steve) Stady of Wilmington, N.C. and Felicia Fortuna of Allegany. His extended family includes several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and his step-grandson, Elliot Corkery.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles J. Fortuna and Elizabeth J. Stavish Fortuna.
A celebration of Richard’s life will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 23, 2026, at the Allegany American Legion.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Allegany American Legion in honor of Richard and to fund a memorial stone.
Richard’s legacy of love, laughter and generosity will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who knew him.
