Merwyn R. ‘Bob’ Brenton III, loving father, grandfather and brother

OLEAN — Merwyn R. “Bob” Brenton III, of Olean, passed away peacefully Monday (May 4, 2026) at his home.

Bob was born Sept. 24, 1937, in Chicago, Ill.. He was the son of Merwyn and Dorothy Deke Brenton II. On Nov. 10, 1973, he married Diane Haskins, who predeceased him Aug. 22, 2012.

Bob attended Lane Tech High School, Colorado School of Mines and served in the U.S. Army.

He was dedicated to his career with CF Industries, both in Olean and in Long Grove, Ill.

After retiring in 2000, he enjoyed many years of travel with his loving wife. His family was the center of his life; he lovingly cared for his wife of 38 years through her final illness.

Bob is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth (William Zalot) Brenton of Portville and Ann Marie (Chris) Brooks of Lakemoor, Ill..; three grandchildren, Justin, Arcade (Ryan) and Brandon; a sister, Sharon (Bob) Stuart; as well as many nephews, nieces, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Bob was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Diane; and a sister, Kay Book in 2019.

A celebration of life gathering will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. Monday (May 11, 2026) at the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc., 646 E. State St., Olean, at which time a service will be held. Mrs. Linda Longo, a close friend of the family, will officiate. A private family graveside service will be held in Riverside Cemetery, Belfast.
