Janet Elaine “Janny” Taft McCaffrey

CONCORD, Calif. — Janet Elaine “Janny” Taft McCaffrey, 75, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Thursday, April 23, 2026, in Concord.

She was born Nov. 22, 1950, to Milton “Bud” Taft and Eileen Whalen Taft in Olean, N.Y. Janet married Joseph McCaffrey in Cuba, N.Y., in 1973, and together they shared 49 wonderful years of marriage.

They built a life together in Allegany, N.Y., before retiring to Summerfield, Fla.

Together they raised two children, Erin (Chris) Walk and Meghan (John) Welch. She was a loving grandmother to her four grandchildren, Killian, Brennan, Raiden and Kyla Welch. She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Fred and Linda Conklin Taft.

Janet graduated from Olean High School in 1968 and worked as a secretary for several businesses before later becoming a school bus driver.

She was known for her gentle nature, kind heart, and quiet sense of humor. Though shy by nature, she showed her love through her warmth, loyalty and care for those closest to her.

She enjoyed taking cruises with her husband and friends, and especially treasured time spent with her grandchildren. In her quieter moments, Janet found joy in creative pursuits, particularly making jewelry and painting, which reflected her thoughtful and artistic spirit.

Janet will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

There will be a celebration of life later in the summer for both Joseph and Janet.
