SALAMANCA — Judith C. Furlong, 84, of Salamanca, died Friday (May 1, 2026) at Olean General Hospital, following long illness.
Born Jan. 29, 1942, in Hornell, she was the daughter of the late William R. and Elizabeth Eastman Schaefer. She was married on July 28, 1962, in the former St. Patrick’s RC Church, to Peter L. Furlong, who survives.
She was a graduate of Salamanca High School, Class of 1960.
She was employed as an assistant jury commissioner for Cattaraugus County for over 20 years, retiring in 1998.
She served on the Salamanca School Board for over 10 years and also served in various positions of the Salamanca High School All Sports Boosters. She was a long-time supporter of the South Side Sabers Booster.
She chaperoned Salamanca Winter Guard and marching band. She also served on the Smith Lake Shore Homeowner’s Association in Ocala, Fla., where she also worked security and served on their breakfast club.
She enjoyed spending time with her family and attending both her children’s, and grandchildren’s sporting events. She was an avid reader and enjoyed crossword puzzles. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, gaming and learned to golf after her retirement, taking them to Florida. She will be remembered for watching old westerns.
Surviving besides her husband are a daughter, Patti Furlong-Crowe of Salamanca; two sons, Paul (Kersten) Furlong of Salamanca and Mike (Julie) Furlong of Honeybrook, Pa.; three granddaughters, Megan (Tyler) Anthony of Honeybrook, Katie Furlong of Allegany and Karrah Furlong of Salamanca; five grandsons, Tyler Carr of Fairmont, W.V., Shawn (Danielle Corbett) Furlong of Honeybrook, Eric Furlong of Allegany, Keegan Hardy and Kasen Hardy, both of Salamanca; two great-grandsons, Asher Anthony and Greyson Anthony, both of Honeybrook; one sister, Jane Hohman of Georgia; and one brother, David (Theresa) Schaefer of Bellevue, Fla.
She was predeceased by an infant daughter, Katherine Furlong; two sisters, Mary Jo Delong and Deanna Schaefer; an aunt, Velma Lockhart; and uncle, Jim Lockhart.
Friends may call from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, May 15, 2026, at the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc. Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 16, 2026, in the funeral home, with Deacon Michael Anderson officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Salamanca All Sports Booster Club.
Funeral arrangements will be under the direction of the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River St. Salamanca.
