Bruce L. Deming,  father, brother and crazy uncle

CUBA — Bruce L. Deming, 67, of Cuba, our crazy uncle, accomplished musician and founding member of the B.O.B.S., passed away Wednesday (April 29, 2026) at ECMC, after a lengthy illness.

Born April 29, 1959, in Cuba, he was a son of Bruce A. and Barbara Marchbanks Deming.

He graduated from Cuba Central School.  He attended college for a short period and then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, serving from April 13, 1978 until March 26, 1982.  He was awarded the Outstanding Unit Award, Good Conduct Medal, Training Ribbon and Overseas Ribbon for his service.

After completing his military service, he returned to work alongside his father at Deming Electroplating eventually taking over as owner — a position he held until he retired.

As a musician he played in the early years of Reality Jones, a local Cuba band, and had his own three-piece band the Porcelain Gods. He was proud to have built his own ultralight plane to fly and later in life enjoyed going to the casino.

He is survived by a daughter, Erin Deming of Houghton; a granddaughter, Norah Calogero; a brother, Michael Deming of Cuba; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Joni Deming.

Friends may call from noon until 2 p.m. Saturday, May 9, 2026, at the Mark F. Rinker Funeral Home & Memorial Service, Inc., 9 Bull St., Cuba.
