While the week got off to a good start, weather-wise, conditions will quickly deteriorate, as the National Weather Service predicts wet, unseasonably cool conditions through the weekend.

“Unfortunately, I think (Monday) is the pick day of the week. It’s only going to go downhill from here,” said David Thomas, a meteorologist at the Buffalo office of the NWS.

While Monday saw plenty of sunshine and highs around 70 for much of the area, a cold front moving through Monday night means some unsettled weather. The NWS issued a wind advisory associated with that cold front for all of Western New York that runs through 11 a.m. Tuesday. Winds of 20 to 30 mph are expected — especially on hilltop areas — with gusts of 50 mph possible.

Tuesday will be cooler with some sunshine and rain showers moving into the area later in the evening. Rainfall totals of a quarter inch are possible. This high temperature will be around 60.

Another system moves through the area Tuesday night, dropping temperatures still further and bringing more sustained rainfall. Highs will be in the mid-50s.

“It’s going to bring a more prolonged period of light to moderate rainfall. The lengthier duration is going to allow to rain to accumulate up to, we’re looking at about an inch in total,” Thomas explained.

Localized flooding could be an issue with Wednesday’s heavier rain.

“It might allow small streams, creeks to really swell, as well also producing some poor drainage flooding or low-lying areas with ponding of water,” Thomas added.

Once that system moves though, Thursday and Friday will likely be drier — though unseasonably cold. Both days will be largely overcast with highs in the upper 40s. Overnight lows could dip to around the freezing mark, and isolated rain or snow showers are possible.

Looking ahead to the weekend, the cooler weather is expected to persist. Saturday will be partly cloudy with a high in the upper 40s. Sunday will be marginally warmer, with overcast skies and a high in the low to mid-50s.
