Howard E. ‘Strick’ Strickland
LEBANON, Tenn. —Howard E. “Strick” Strickland, age 94, passed away peacefully Tuesday (April 21, 2026) at his daughter’s residence in Lebanon.
Mr. Howard Strickland, a devoted husband, proud veteran, and hardworking provider, passed away leaving behind a legacy of love, loyalty and dedication to both family and country.
Mr. Strickland honorably served his country in the U.S. Army from June 1949 until August 1952. Following his service, he remained active in several organizations that reflected his commitment to fellow veterans and community life, including the American Legion, Moose Lodge, Elks Lodge and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Howard was known for his strong work ethic and willingness to do whatever was needed to provide for his family. Over the years, he worked at a glue factory and tannery in Gowanda, N.Y., drove a milk truck, and later worked in trucking with Wolf Trucking. He eventually found his place with the Town of Otto, N.Y., where he served as a high lift driver until his retirement.
Outside of work, Howard found joy in the simple and meaningful parts of life. He loved spending time with his horse, Thunder, and his loyal German Shepherd, Bear and watching westerns.
He was happiest when surrounded by his family, especially his grandchildren, who brought him great pride and joy. He also enjoyed bowling, a pastime that brought him relaxation and fellowship.
Above all, the greatest love of his life was his wife, with whom he shared an incredible 72 years of marriage. Their life together stood as a beautiful example of devotion, partnership, and enduring love.
Mr. Strickland will be remembered for his steady presence, his dedication to those he loved, and the life he built through hard work and faithfulness.
He is survived by daughters, Cindy Heim and Becky Dudley; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by parents, Harold and Laura Strickland; wife, Ruth Strickland; infant daughter, Faith Marie Strickland; son, Howard “Howie” Strickland; and brother, Harold Strickland.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday (April 28, 2026) at the Mentley Funeral Home Inc., 411 Rock City St., in Little Valley. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday from the funeral home. Burial with Military Honors will be in Liberty Park Cemetery in Cattaraugus, N.Y.
