Richard E. ‘Doc’ Thomas

OLEAN — Richard Earle “Doc” Thomas, 84, formerly of South 13th Street, passed away Monday (April 20, 2026) at the Cuba Memorial Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility, after a brief illness.

Born June 16, 1941, in Olean, he was the son of Leon Mortimer and Alice Evelyn Lundquist Thomas.

Doc was raised and educated in Olean and later moved to Wellsville. He returned to live in Olean and worked as an orderly at The Pines of Olean.

For many years he was an avid runner and bicyclist.

He has no known family and had a close friendship for many years with his neighbor and caretaker, John Gordon.

No public services will be observed. Doc’s wishes were to be cremated and buried in his parent’s lot in Lakewood Cemetery, Jamestown.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
