Anthony J. Ellman Sr.

OLEAN — Anthony J. Ellman Sr., 77, passed away unexpectedly Thursday (April 16, 2026) at Buffalo General Hospital, after a short illness.

Born Aug. 6, 1948, in Olean, he was the son of Michael and Marjorie McGavisk Ellman. On Oct. 10, 1970, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Queens, he married Theresa Nelson, who predeceased him Nov. 10, 2017.

Tony was a graduate of Walsh High School and a 1974 graduate of Finger Lakes Community College, earning an associate’s degree in natural resources.

On March 22, 1968, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served during the Vietnam War until his honorable discharge in 1972.

He spent many years working for the City of Olean at the wastewater treatment plant.

He was a proud member of the Pulaski Club and the NRA, and a staunch supporter of the Second Amendment.

Tony would love to spend his days hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed watching westerns, with Magnificent Seven being one of his favorites. Tony loved attending raffles with his boys and was an avid New York Yankees fan. Most importantly, he loved his family and will be remembered for his kindness and generosity toward everyone.

Surviving are his two sons, Christopher (Casey) Ellman and Ryan Ellman, both of Olean; his beloved grandchildren, Ava Moran and Carter Ellman; a brother, Michael (Xiao Juan) Ellman; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by his son, Anthony J. Ellman Jr., in July of 2022.

Friends will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday (April 23, 2026) at the Casey, Halwig and Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 West State Road, Olean. A funeral service will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery.
