Ruth E. Holden,  loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother

CUBA — It is with deep sadness that we announced the passing of the matriarch of our family, Ruth E. Holden, 94, on Friday (April 3, 2026), at Wellsville Manor Care Center, after a lengthy illness.

Born Oct. 12, 1931, in Eldred, Pa., she was a daughter of Hester and Nellie Lee McClure Moses, and was later adopted by Hugh Bradley DeYoe.  On Sept. 8, 1949, in Olean, she married Lewis L. Holden Sr., who preceded her in death on Jan. 6, 1999.

Ruth was a graduate of Olean High School, Class of 1949; and the Saint Francis School of Nursing in 1971 as a licensed practical nurse.

Ruth worked at Cuba Memorial Hospital’s third floor Skilled Nursing Facility until her retirement in August of 1996.

She was a member of the Cuba Methodist Church.

 She enjoyed walking, baking, attending all of her grandchildren’s sporting events, hosting family gatherings, and will be remembered for offering her oatmeal cake to show her appreciation for her community.

Surviving are her children, Marilyn (James) Luckey of Black Creek, Frances (Michael) Young, Mary Ellen (William) James, Joyce (William) Amundson and Lewis (Cheryl) Holden Jr., retired USAF, all of Cuba; 15 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by an infant son, Hugh Reuben Holden; a granddaughter, Alicia Bradley; and her siblings and their spouses, Harriet (William) Michalski, Raymond (Mary and Ruth) Moses, Eva (Francis) Stook, James (Anna) Moses, Walter (Gladys) Moses, Guy (Lois) Moses, Donald (Geraldine) Moses and Ruby (Wayne) Allen.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday (April 10, 2026) at the Mark F. Rinker Funeral Home & Memorial Service, Inc., 9 Bull St., Cuba.   Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday (April 11, 2026) at the Cuba Methodist Church, 49 E. Main St., Cuba. Rev. Rebecca Worth, will officiate. Burial will be in Cuba Cemetery, Cuba.

Memorial may be made to a charity of the donors choice.
