Larry P. Johnson Sr., loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather

PORTVILLE — Larry P. Johnson Sr. passed away Thursday (March 26, 2026) at home, surrounded by his loving family, after a long illness.

Larry was born in Olean on March 14, 1946, the son of the late Lawrence and Alene Johnson. On Nov. 15, 1974, he married the former Sari Church, who survives.

A 1965 graduate of Portville Central School, Larry went on to work for Olean Wholesale as a truck driver. He retired in 2009 after working for the Wholesale for 35 years.

Larry was a volunteer firefighter and a life member of the Westons Mills Fire Dept. He also served as a past assistant chief and was an advanced EMT.

He loved camping with his friends and riding his Harley when he could.

Larry is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Sari; his children, Steve (Bonnie) Johnson, Eric Johnson, Kimberly Johnson, Jennifer (Steve) Brantley, Anthony (Tammy) Scalfaro and Terry (Tracy) Scalfaro; 17 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; his sisters, Cindy Osika and Susan Johnson; his brother, David (April) Johnson; and a special daughter-in-law, Stacey Johnson.

He was predeceased by two sons, Jeremy Johnson and Larry (LP) Johnson Jr.; and a sister, Diane Bettencourt.

Per Larry’s wishes, there will be no services. Burial will be in Chestnut Hill Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
