Vicki J. Thompson Hook
Vicki J. Thompson Hook, 1954-2026
MARCO ISLAND, Fla. — Vicki Hook, a dedicated public servant and pillar of the communities she served, died peacefully at her home on Marco Island on Tuesday, March 10, 2026.
Renowned for her tireless work ethic and political acumen, Vicki dedicated her career to maintaining the integrity of the democratic process and serving the people of New York with distinction.
Her professional journey was marked by significant contributions to election administration and congressional service. Vicki served as Cattaraugus County (N.Y.) Elections Commissioner and later brought her expertise to the Erie County (N.Y.) Board of Elections as deputy elections commissioner.
Her commitment to public service extended to the federal government, where she served as office administrator and later as chief of staff and deputy chief of staff for New York Members of Congress Vito Fossella (R, Staten Island) and Tom Reed (R, Corning). In these roles, she was a trusted advisor and a crucial link between the representatives and their constituents.
In 2013, Vicki retired to Marco Island, where she left behind the busy world of Washington and New York politics for a well-deserved life of leisure, though her passion for helping others and her sharp wit remained unchanged.
Vicki was born in Cuba, N.Y., on Nov. 10, 1954.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Michael; her three beloved daughters, Melissa Scott, Mindy Scott Welninski and Mandi (Scott) Culhane; her mother, Nancy (Oliver) Thompson; her two sons-in-law, Eric Welninski and Michael Culhane; and her precious dog, Toby. She also leaves behind her brothers, Scott (Doreen) Thompson and Ronn (Angie) Thompson; along with dozens of nieces and nephews who will fondly remember “Aunt Vicki” for her warmth and charm.
Her funeral will take place at 11 a.m. Monday (March 23, 2026) at San Marco Catholic Church on Marco Island, followed by a luncheon at the Island Country Club. Her family will also host a celebration of her life at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 25, 2026, at Moonwinks in Cuba.
