OLEAN — A monstrous performance from senior Frank Mitchell wasn’t quite enough on Wednesday, as the Bonnies (15-15, 4-13) fell in overtime to George Washington, 91-82.

Mitchell finished with 22 points, 18 rebounds (seven of which were on the offensive end) and five assists in 42 minutes, creating second chance opportunities and keeping the Bonnies in the game throughout regulation.

After a close first 35 minutes with both teams taking turns going on runs throughout, the Bonnies’ inability to close out the game came down to turnovers, and a season-long struggle to stay in front of quick guards resurfacing late.

It looked like those things would cost the Bonnies in regulation, but they were given a gift.

Down 72-68 in the last minute, senior point guard Dasonte Bowen turned the ball over, resulting in a two-on-one opportunity in transition for George Washington.

Instead of taking the ball back out to force St. Bonaventure to foul or taking what would have been a relatively uncontested layup, George Washington junior Trey Autry sloppily threw up a one-handed alley oop attempt, intended for a teammate, which instead landed directly in the hands of Bowen.

Bowen then had a transition opportunity of his own, finding Grahovac for a three, and reducing the lead to 72-71 with 43 seconds to go.

Grahovac fouled Revolutionaries’ senior Tyrone Marshall Jr., but he split the pair. On the other end, junior Darryl Simmons II drew a foul, and hit them both with 20 seconds left. The Revolutionaries didn’t get a shot off on their last possession, and somehow, improbably, the Bonnies were headed for overtime.

But, if the Bonnies were going to win, it might have had to happen in regulation. The Revolutionaries got the last laugh, attacking the paint with impunity. Marshall Jr. and junior Jean Aranguren earned and-ones, beating the Bonnies off the dribble. Autry connected on a three.

The Bonnies’ offense stalled, and quickly the game slipped out of reach.

In addition to Mitchell’s contributions, senior Cayden Charles scored 20 points, while Simmons II added 19, many of them coming late. For the Revolutionaries, Aranguren scored 20, leading a group of six Revolutionaries’ players who scored in double figures.

The Bonnies will play their final regular season game on Saturday at noon at the Reilly Center against Davidson.
