COCOA, Fla. — Mary Theresa Hoffman Metz, 69, a resident of Olean, N.Y. and Florida most of her life, passed away Monday (Jan. 26, 2026) at William Childs Hospice House, Palm Bay, after an extended illness.
Born Dec. 29, 1956, in Cleveland, Ohio, she was the daughter of Dr. James Fisher Hoffman and Romaine Ryan Hoffman.
Mary attended Olean Senior High School in Olean.
She lived the majority of her life in Olean and Florida, and worked as a sales associate at Publix, Winn Dixie and Walmart.
Most important to Mary were her children, grandchildren and family. She loved her dogs Luna and Leo and she enjoyed quilting, crocheting, movies and reading.
She leaves behind four children, David Metz ofCocoa, Jennifer Metz of California, James Metz of Seminole and Jason Metz of Olean; three grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind seven siblings, James Hoffman of Olean, Charles (Sandy) Hoffman of Colorado Springs, Colo., John Hoffman of Olean, Paul (Sherry) Hoffman of Ridgway, Pa., Pat (David) Merriam of Hornell, N.Y. and Peter (Angela) Hoffman of Argyle, Texas.
She was predeceased by her sister, Rose Marie Doty, in 2023.
The family will hold a private burial at St. Bonaventure Cemetery in Allegany, N.Y. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
