Robert L. Rhodes, father, grandfather, brother, uncle

WEST CLARKSVILLE — Robert L. Rhodes, of West Clarksville, passed away Monday, Jan. 19, 2026, at Olean General Hospital.

He was born a son of Carrie May McMurtry on May 11, 1945.

Robert grew up in West Clarksville working on his uncle’s farm from a very young age, milking cows and working the fields throughout his whole life, and has passed down his knowledge of that passion to two generations.

He served three years in the U..S Army and received the Army Medal for meritorious service in the republic of Vietnam.

Upon his return home he continued farming but also picked up carpentry, roofing, railroad work and was a bartender at the St, James Hotel for many years.

Robert truly was an all-around jack of all trades there wasn’t a lot he couldn’t do. He loved hunting, fishing, fireworks, and telling his family stories about back in the day.

He is survived by his children, Faith (Rich) Kreamer, Justa Rhodes and Steven (Ashley Rix) Rhodes; his grandchildren, Andrew (Lura O’Keefe) Kreamer, Makayla (Travis Franclemont) Kreamer, Dailah Rhodes, Carter Mooney, Connor Rhodes, Breana Rix and Orrin Rhodes; three great-grandchildren, Keanan Kreamer, Grandon Franclemont and Kooper Kreamer; five siblings, Doug (Janet) Rhodes, Joe Thompson, Ray (Peg) Thompson, Gail Thompson and Colleen Thompson; close family friends, John Duvall, Mary Pasekia, Mary Jo, Denny and Cowles; two sisters-in-law, Judy Thompson and Dolores Rhodes; and many nieces and nephews.

Robert was preceded in death by his mother, Carrie May McMurtry; two brothers, William and Barry Thompson; a sister, Romona Woods; an uncle, Albert Childs; ex-wife and dearest friend, Theresa Dutton Rhodes; and their son, Albert Rhodes
