Richard G. Hughey

ELLICOTTVILLE — Richard G. Hughey, 85, of Ellicottville, passed away Monday (Jan. 26, 2026) at his home.

He was born Nov. 29, 1940, in Springville, son of the late Jack and Esther Jenkel Hughey. On Sept. 21, 1963, he married the former Daniele Famery, who survives.

Richard worked construction for many years for the Eastern Summit in Springville as well Northrup’s Construction in Ellicottville.

He always enjoyed gardening and being outdoors, especially hunting. He was a social member of the Little Valley VFW as well as the Ellicottville American Legion.

Besides his loving wife of 62 years, he is survived by a son, Richard (James Koch) Hughey of Chambersburg, Pa.; and a daughter, Michelle (Jerry) Wells of West Valley. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Samantha (Robbie) Green and Brittany (John) Hughes; a great-grandchild, Aurora; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Richard is predeceased by a brother, Jim Hughey; and his wife, Katie Hughey.

Private family services will be held.
