SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. — John Hyde Barnard passed away Sunday, Jan. 11, 2026.

John was born in Olean, N.Y. on one of the coldest days, Feb. 16, 1950. John was the son of William Emery Barnard and Eleanor June Hyde Barnard. John was married to his loving wife, Merrily Weeber, who survives.

John attended Olean High School and received his master’s degree from California State University San Marcos.

As a youth John discovered the magic of music. He spent his entire life in pursuit of that magic. He and Merrily preformed throughout the United States and the San Francisco Bay Area.

He also was a musical director, producer, arranger and songwriter for his company, Propensity Music BMI.

His desire to learn and discover encouraged him to be a freelance writer. He wrote the historical fiction, “The Creole Incident and also wrote the prize winning short story “The Lot.

John was a Buffalo Bills fan and was fully aware that they pulled out the win the day he passed. “Go Bills”!

John is survived by his three brothers, Bill, Paul and Tom; and his sister, Beth. He leaves behind  his sister-in-law, Robin; and Kismet cousins as well as nieces and nephews. John also leaves behind his many amazing friends.
