Hibernians seek support for Olean Area Celtic Festival
OLEAN — Local Hibernians are looking for some help to make the inaugural Olean Area Celtic Festival a success this summer.
The Ancient Order of Hibernians, Cattaraugus County, Division 2, is reaching out for vendors and sponsors for the inaugural Olean Area Celtic Festival. The family-friendly festival is set to run from 5-9 p.m. Aug. 28 and noon-10 p.m. Aug. 29 at Gargoyle Park, the city of Olean-owned park in the town of Allegany.
“The festival celebrates Irish and Celtic culture with family-friendly entertainment, music, food, and community activities,” said Hibernian James Zanett. “Sponsorship is a great way to show visible support for the community while gaining recognition through our festival promotions.
The event would be the first of its kind for the Hibernians, and officials hope to make it an annual occurrence.
Along with food, beverage, and artisan vendors, officials are planning to offer live entertainment including live Celtic music performances, pipes & drums, and dance. To date, groups confirmed to be performing are Tom Keefer and Celtic Cross, and The Irish Lassies. More performers are expected to be announced closer to the event.
Officials are also planning on hosting Highland games, strength-based sports involving throws and lifts. The most famous of these is the caber toss — attempting to throw a large pole so it turns end over end. Also being planned are a clan parade and cultural demos.
Sponsorships are available for businesses and other groups, ranging from $250 to $10,000. For more information on sponsorships, contact Zanett at 307-1028 or jczanett@gmail.com.
