Elizabeth Medora Brandes Gallmann
BRADFORD, Pa. — Elizabeth Medora Brandes Gallmann, known to most as Betty, passed away Sunday night (Jan. 4, 2026) at home, after a tough battle with cancer.
Betty was born Nov. 25, 1933, at the family homestead on Vorhees Hill in Wellsville, N.Y., to her parents Walter and Medora Brandes. She was married to Alton Gallmann on Sept. 17, 1955, for 65 years until he predeceased her in 2020.
The couple spent most of their lives In Little Valley, N.Y., where they raised their three children and were faithful members of St Michael’s Lutheran Church. They moved to Bradford in 2015 to be closer to their eldest daughter and devoted caregiver, and became members of Grace Lutheran Church.
Betty liked to play cards and would never turn down a card game, playing every night after dinner or whenever anyone would come to visit. Betty also loved to make many things with plastic canvas and share them with her family and friends. She made decorations and items for every occasion and always displayed them in her home for the current holiday or season.
She is survived by her three children, Gayle Gallmann of Bradford, Joan (Dale) Ludwick of Ellicottville, N.Y. and Victor Gallmann of Olean. She has two grandchildren, Chad Gallmann and Kristin Schmick Rocco; and three great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Eleanor and Viviana. She has two step-grandchildren, Clayton (Jessica) Ludwick and Art Ludwick; and several step-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Judy (Brandes) Reuning of Columbus Ohio; and sister-in-law, Carol Gallmann of Angelica, N.Y.
Betty was predeceased by brothers and sisters-in-law, Joseph and Louise Brandes, Richard and Patricia Brandes and Robert and Connie Brandes; and brothers-in-law, Richard Reuning and Paul Gallmann.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday (Jan. 12, 2026) at Grace Lutheran Church in Bradford. All family and friends are invited to stay for a luncheon and fellowship following the service.
