Alecia M. ‘Topsy’ Sherwood Prentice

NEW PHILADELPHIA, Ohio — Alecia M. “Topsy” Sherwood Prentice, 82, of New Philadelphia, formerly of Sugarcreek, passed away at Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital in Dover on Sunday (Jan. 4, 2026) following a brief period of declining health.

Born in Shinglehouse, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Ervin “Hap” and Maude Plants Sherwood, and a graduate of Shinglehouse High School.

Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday (Jan. 9, 2026) at Smith-Varns Funeral Home in Sugarcreek. Burial will follow at Union Hill Cemetery in Sugarcreek. Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Smith-Varns Funeral Home in Sugarcreek on Friday prior to services.
