ALLEGANY — Curtis Lloyd Fischer, 94 of Allegany, passed away Friday (Jan. 2, 2026) surrounded by his family.
Curt was born Sept. 17, 1931, in East Aurora, and was the son of Curtis Edward and Carolyn Yanda Fischer. On Oct. 12, 1963, he married Helen Ann Giardini who predeceased him Feb. 2, 2024.
Curt graduated from Portville Central and attended St. Bonaventure University.
He was drafted and served in the Korean War from 1953-55. Rank CPL, and his awards included Korean service medal, Good Conduct Medal, United Nation Service Medal and National Defense Medal.
He worked for the New York Telephone Co. from 1955-1991, when he retired.
He was a member of the Olean Rod and Gun Club and Portville Lodge 579. He loved to hunt and shoot trap. He was known as someone who could fix anything. He was an excellent machinist, welder and gunsmith.
He will always be known for his stories, sayings and sense of humor that he shared with his family and coffee buddies. He enjoyed his grandchildren and was always there for them.
Curt is survived by two daughters, Susan (James) Schifley of Allegany and Rhonda (Sebastian) Puda of Erie, Pa. He was known as Papa to Matthew (Erika) Puda, Joshua Puda, Molly, Hannah and Lauren Schifley.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by two sisters, Norvelle Shields and Kathryn Kayes.
There will be no visitation. Curtis will be laid to rest at the St. Bonaventure Cemetery.
