The city of Salamanca Youth Bureau, Salamanca Police Department and Seneca Nation Marshals have once again teamed up for their annual Shop with a Cop event. On Thursday afternoon, 12 Salamanca area students and 12 officers — six Salamanca officers and six Marshals — browsed the aisles of Walmart in Allegany for gifts for the children’s family members, said Markie Phillips, Youth Bureau Director. After shopping, the group returned to the Salamanca Youth Center and wrapped presents together in the gym at the youth center and enjoyed some pizza for lunch, Phillips said. Sponsors from around the area donate to the cause every holiday season, giving local police the opportunity to introduce themselves and be a positive influence on youth from a young age.
