John W. Steiger

HALLETTSVILLE, Texas — John W. Steiger, 87, of the Hallettsville/Weimer area, went to be with the Lord Sunday, Nov. 23, 2025.

He was born Oct. 11, 1938, to Alfred F. and Grace M. Steiger in Olean, N.Y.

John graduated from Olean High School in 1956; and began immediate employment with Clark Brothers Co. (also known as Dresser Industries) in July of same year.

He worked in Olean for 10 years, then accepted a permanent work transfer to Houston in 1966. John worked in Houston, and on several overseas assignments for Dresser-Rand (formerly Dresser Industries) until his retirement in 2000.

John is survived by his children, John W. Steiger Jr, and wife Mary; Charles D. Steiger, and wife Jackie; Jodi A. Phillips and husband, Chris. He leaves behind four grandchildren, Chad, Kaitlin, Lauryn and Caleb; two sisters, Alice L. Foster of Silver Springs, Fla. and Marie G. Finch of Allegany, N.Y.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Grace Steiger; brother, Alfred J. Steiger and wife Ellen; brother, Robert F. Steiger; and brothers-in-law, John Foster and Dale Finch.

A private family memorial service is pending at a later date in Olean.
