PORTVILLE — Nancy Carol Swartz Warner, born Nov. 4, 1939, in Olean, passed away Thursday (Nov. 20, 2025) in Olean, at 86 years old.

Nancy lived a long, fulfilling life, with husband James “Jim” at her side since she was 17 years old. She married her high school sweetheart in 1959.

After marrying in Portville, their first child, LuAnn, was born, and Nancy soon joined Jim in Nuremberg, Germany, where he was stationed with the army. They were able to live in an apartment off base with other army families.

After Jim’s discharge, they settled in Portville. Soon, as their family grew to include two boys (Michael and Jeffrey), Nancy and Jim established their new home in Myrtle Beach, S.C., where Jim was transferred. After three years there, they moved their family back to Portville. A fourth child, James “Bo” was born, and four years later, their last child, Kimberly, rounded out the family of seven.

She enjoyed square dancing, as well as round and line dancing with Jim and other club members, running the Portville Central School Antique Auction, selling Avon, and creating home decor from kits. She was an excellent baker and could have had her own stylist chair at any salon with her talents. She also loved puzzles, crossword puzzles, playing cards with family and friends, as well as any game with family and friends — she was very competitive (and often won).

Nancy worked as the Methodist Church secretary for a number of years and as a receptionist at an Olean dentist’s office. They were also active in the school’s AFS organization, hosting a couple of students from other countries in their home for each student’s academic year. One, Claire, from New Zealand, is still in touch and considered a member of the family.

When Jim retired, Nancy fell in love with camper traveling. In 2002, they found a perfect community in Bradenton, Fla., enjoying their large network of friends for sixteen years in that community, as well as their time with one of her brothers, Dave, and his wife Sherry, who lived nearby.

Nancy and Jim enjoyed their travels abroad and around the states, often traveling with Jim’s sister, Helen, and her husband, Jim, or with their friends who lived around the country. They moved back to the area in 2016, living in a home in Olean perfect for them for five years before settling for an easier life at the Portville Manor.

Nancy will be missed by her husband, Jim; her children and their significant others, LuAnn (John), Mike (Michelle), Bo and Kimberly (Phil); and daughter-in-law, Karen; as well as her 11 grandchildren and significant others, AJ and Kristen Prokos, Zephan and Renee Prokos, Ty and Tamara Warner, Jared and Nicole Warner, Zeke Warner, Nikita and Jeremy McCoy, Breanna and Jordan Reed, Nick Warner, Ryan Warner, Kevin Warner, Taylor and Trent Neely; and her 17 great-grandchildren, Xander, Lena, Leo, Veronica, Adelyn, Jackson, Hannah, Elton, Evee, Harper, Noah, Conner, Aspen, Rosalie, Wesley, Halston, and Laken. She also leaves behind her brothers, Gerry, David and wife Sherry, and Merle.

Nancy is pre-deceased by her beloved son, Jeffrey; her parents, Woodrow and Lula Swartz; her sisters, Shirley and Barb; and her brother, Richard.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, Feb. 21, 2026, at the Methodist Church, with a celebration of life to follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to Toys for Tots, St. Jude or other charitable organizations similar that are involved with children’s health and well-being.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Guenther Funeral Home, Inc., 51 S. Main St., Portville.

Online condolences can be expressed at www.guentherfh.com.
