Rebekah Miriam Thompson, beloved sister, daughter and friend
PORTVILLE — Rebekah Miriam Thompson, born Jan. 30, 1957, went home to be with the Lord suddenly and quickly as she was preparing for breakfast at The Pines Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Olean, on the morning of Wednesday (Oct. 29, 2025) after an extended illness.
Rebekah was the fourth of Grover and Ruth Thompson’s children, born while they were pastoring at the Maplehurst Baptist Church near Hinsdale.
In 1968, the family moved to Temple Street in Portville, where they enjoyed active membership in the Portville Baptist Church. In time, Rebekah moved to the Portville Square Apartments, where special friends became even more special as they took note of her and her needs.
Rebekah is survived by her brother, David E. Thompson of San Jose, Calif.; nephews, David C. Thompson of Windsor, Calif., Jon Thompson of Redding, Calif. and Tim Thompson of Gilbert, Ariz,; and nieces, Christi Thompson of San Nicolás, Argentina and Bethany Sibbitt of Dayton, Ohio.
She was predeceased by her parents, Grover and Ruth Thompson of Portville; brother, Daniel Lynn of Portville; and sister, Naomi Ruth (Sibbitt) of Danbury, Conn.
A funeral service for Rebekah will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday (Nov. 4, 2025) at the Guenther Funeral Home, 51 S. Main St., Portville, with burial to follow at the Chestnut Hill Cemetery in Portville, with Pastor Mark Beckwith of the Portville Baptist Church officiating.
Memorial donations to the Portville Baptist Church are encouraged.
